At the same time, every day, hundreds of dogs are euthanized in shelters across the country. Many of these dogs can be saved and trained for a higher purpose in life.
Service Dogs and Traumatized Soldiers
Specially trained service dogs have proven to make a profound difference in improving the mental health of traumatized soldiers. Veterans Affairs certifies many traumatized soldiers to get a specially trained service dog, but that is not enough — specialized service dogs cost $25,000–$30,000. Veterans Affairs does not fund this cost.
